An emotional high ... anyone who thinks dance is a tulle-wrapped fairytale will consider this a discovery ... an unexpectedly beautiful dance piece
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD
Lucy Guerin is internationally renowned for the emotional depth of her multi-award-winning choreography. In Structure and Sadness, winner of the 2007 Helpmann Award for Best Dance Work, she explores the relationship between a tragic structural collapse and its emotional consequences.
This poignant and extraordinarily beautiful work takes as its starting point the 1970 collapse of the West Gate Bridge in Melbourne. In an inspired collaboration with designers Ben Cobham and Andrew Livingston, Guerin creates a choreographic language of engineering, support, suspension and collapse. The journey from physical tension to emotional release is masterfully portrayed by Guerin's six dancers.
