Lotterywest Festival Films :: The Band's Visit
An audience charmer ... a warm and delightful take on cross-cultural relations that proves that sometimes a light touch is just what's needed to address serious topics

A small Egyptian police band arrives in Israel to play at the inaugural ceremony of an Arab arts centre but, due to bureaucratic confusion and bad luck, the musicians are stranded in a tiny Israeli town in the heart of the desert.
There, helped by a shared love of music, the Egyptians and Israelis discover many important things about each other and about themselves.
This understated and offbeat film recently won eight Israeli Academy Awards including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director and is Israel's official entry for the 2008 Oscars.
