Lotterywest Festival Films :: The Edge of Heaven
The Edge of Heaven is the fifth feature from acclaimed German-born Turkish director Fatih Akin. Like Crash and Babel, the characters diverge and intersect with each other and the tone is reminiscent of the Oscar-winning The Lives of Others.
Nejat, a Turkish professor of German literature living in Bremen, travels to Istanbul on a quixotic quest to find the daughter of his father's former partner. Through his search Nejat discovers that the wounds and scars of the past can only be healed by a mix of life-altering events and the passage of time.
Juggling timely themes of globalisation and miscommunication, this evocative and profoundly moving film bridges two different cultures and two diametrically varied races as it moves between Turkey and Germany.
