Lotterywest Festival Films :: War/Dance
The children sing and dance; they sing with vitality; they sing in protest and in celebration. They dance and stomp to the rhythms of their ancestors. They carry the hopes and dreams of an entire village with them
SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAMME NOTE
Supported By
In this compelling documentary, the poverty-stricken Acholi tribe in northern Uganda achieve greatness in their community and celebrate their culture, while grappling with the atrocities of war, repression and hardship.
Students from the Patonga refugee camp primary school, many of whom are orphaned, are invited to compete for the first time in a nationwide music and dance competition held in Kampala.
As the children develop their traditional music and performance skills, they find happiness in the midst of tragedy in this exuberant celebration of African tribal music and dance.
