Music :: Cesaria Evora
Cape Verdean diva Cesaria Evora got a huge response for her easy-shuffl ing rhythms and majestically unhurried delivery
DAILY TELEGRAPH
She is a commanding presence from the off, and by the time she has slipped into the sombre ‘Sombras il Disti-no', the night is all hers

Sensational diva Cesaria Evora put her island home of Cape Verde on the map with a sultry voice that has spellbound audiences worldwide, transcending language with the emotion of her performances.
A Grammy Award nominee with sales of more than five million albums worldwide, Evora is known as the queen of morna, a soulful genre sung in Creole-Portuguese.
Like a finely-tuned instrument, Evora's fabulously textured voice blends with sounds from her eight-piece band of guitar, cavaquinho, violin, piano, percussion and saxophone. The result is sentimental folk tunes with a bluesy sound and Afro-Cuban rhythms - music infused with the sway of the sea.
This Western Australian premiere is a chance to discover a legendary artist.
