Perth Writers Festival :: Festival Book Club with Peter Godwin
Haunting and beautifully written new memoir
NEW YORK TIMES
He has written a powerful and deeply affecting book about a family trying to ride the tsunami of change in a country that is coming asunder
NEW YORK TIMES
Zimbabwe-born writer and journalist Peter Godwin's memoir Mukiwa: A White Boy in Africa is a touching personal narrative of a boy becoming a young man amid civil war. In When a Crocodile Eats the Sun Godwin returns to his birthplace, having received news that his father is dying, to find the country in violent confusion and his parents refusing to abandon their home.
Once stable and prosperous, Zimbabwe has become a land gripped by chaos. It is against this dark backdrop that Godwin tells the story of his parents' struggle, and his discovery of a 50-year-old family secret.
Bring a picnic and your book club along to meet Peter Godwin as he discusses his powerful and moving memoir.
