Frequently Asked Questions
What are Education Resource Kits?
These are educational resources available to teachers upon booking for most Festival events. They contain lesson and task ideas, activities, and background information about the performers, art form and genre. They also contain a competition for students which is submitted through this website. These kits are linked to outcomes of the Curriculum Framework. The kits will be e-mailed or posted to teachers after booking.
What are pre-performance talks?
These talks are held prior to some performances and are given by the director or a key person from the show. He/she will usually give background information about the show, its creation, performers involved etc. There may also be time for audience questions. These events are free and would be interesting for students to attend before the performance. Booking is required simply for the purposes of numbers.
What is Excursion Management Planning Documentation?
This is a document prepared to assist teachers in their excursion planning. It follows DET requirements and includes information about public liability insurance, the venue, student suitability, supervision, external providers, parent information and consent, communication strategies, emergency response planning and student and supervisor briefing. Some information specific to each school needs to be added by teachers. These can be downloaded from the website.
What is a teacher pre-visit briefing?
This is arranged prior to the excursion between the organising teacher from the school and the Perth International Arts Festival’s Education Officer. Conducted over the phone, it is a chance for teachers to ask any questions they have and to discuss and confirm excursion arrangements if required.
What should my students know before attending a Festival event?
Students will get more out of Festival events if they have some prior knowledge of the event. If possible some activities from the Education Resource Kits should be completed before attending. Is this isn’t possible students should at least know a little bit about the performers/authors/musicians/artists and a little bit about the story or theme of the show. It goes without saying that the more students know about what they will be seeing beforehand, the more meaningful the experience will be for them.
Classes should also discuss audience etiquette before attending. Guidelines can be downloaded from the website.
What should I do if I have any other questions?
