It is impossible not to enjoy a play with such a sense of humour
THE GUARDIAN

Its ridicule of tradition, myth, family, heritage and the old sentimentalities isn't just funny: it's hilariously surreal
THE TIMES

From start to finish, this bittersweet production brings forth waves of laughter ... Touching and sentimental yet rip roaringly funny, Trad is a real gem that will pull at your heartstrings not to mention tickle the funny bone

A short but marathon voyage, Trad follows the relationship of Thomas, a 100-year-old Irishman, and his father Da in a surreal comedy that looks at the value of tradition.

Da hates the English and is disappointed in his son for failing to become a father himself. Thomas, meanwhile, has news for him: some 70 years ago, during a wordless encounter with a girl known to him only as ‘Mary', he did his bit to further the family line, and there's a possibility of a son of his out there, somewhere ...

Hilarious and poignant, this critically acclaimed, smashhit production of Ireland's Galway Arts Festival won the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe First 2005, the Writers' Guild
of Great Britain Award for Best Theatre Writing 2005 and an Adelaide Fringe Festival Award 2006.
